Our amazing Pickerings Lifts employees have helped a lot of charities this year. They have taken on events that take courage, time and determination… and we are proud every one of them!
We started in March, when two members of our team carried out walking challenges.
Neil Marsden, our Sales and Marketing Director, had a target to walk 10,000 steps throughout March.
In the event, he actually walked a total of 310,944 steps. That’s an astonishing distance of 249km/154.7 miles… and he did it in 61 hours… well over his target.
Neil raised £1,000 for Cancer Research.
At the time Neil said “A massive thank you to all who sponsored me, every penny raised all goes to help Cancer Research to continue their amazing work.”
Meanwhile, Jill Dobson in our HR department, and her four legged pooch Roxie, took part in the March dog walking challenge, raising money for families affected by Dementia.
The mission was to walk 100km… Jill and Roxie completed 105km, and raised £166 for Dementia UK.
July saw several events happening across the UK!
July was a very busy month for members of our team, all taking part in different activities.
Amanda Stonier, QHSE Manager for Pickerings Lifts, took on and conquered the Northumberland Mighty Hike… 26 miles from Alnwick Castle to Bamburgh in one day!
Remember that really sunny, hot weekend we had?
Yes, that was the day!
Amanda completed it in 28-30° heat with no cloud and very little breeze… and completed in 9 hours 22 minutes, with a sponsorship total of £1,000 dedicated for the amazing charity Macmillan Cancer Support.
…And lacing up his walking shoes again Neil Marsden, Sales and Marketing Director then went on and smashed the Peak District Trek for Marie Curie (Care & Support), raising a further £200, that will help pay for vital nursing care for terminally ill patients.
They cycled 250km on a tandem bike!
Warren Griffin and Ian Newman took part in the challenge, being the only participants riding a two man bike.
They were ably supported by Frank Studders.
The challenge took place over two days, cycling from Leicester all the way to London. The group raised £2,800 for the charity, which will go to helping the families of individuals who have been injured whist working in the lift industry.
Thanks to those like Warren, Ian and Frank, families can rest assured that they will be looked after with the donations made to the charity.
Also in July, Claire McDonald, from our Accounts department, walked 53.4 miles and exceeded her target of 26.2 miles! Raising £170 for the Samaritans.
“Samaritans’ life-saving work wouldn’t be possible without the amazing generosity of people like you supporting people like me. Thank you.” Said Claire.
Then lastly, our Marketing Manager, Jason Sullock, completed the London Landmarks Half Marathon… one of his three half marathons in support of Alzheimer’s Research UK.
Yes… he will be running three official half marathons this year.
“It’s all in a good cause. I’m not the fastest runner, but I can honestly say that I enjoy it, so why not do some good in the world?” he said when we asked him about it.
On the 5th September he will be running the Leeds Half Marathon, and his final half marathon will be on 12th September for the Great North Run!
The Yorkshire Three Peaks Charity Challenge…
Neil Marsden, Sales and Marketing Director will be taking on his third charity event of the year… the Yorkshire Three Peaks Charity Challenge to raise much needed funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Part of a team, they will try to raise £12k and complete the Yorkshire 3 Peaks on Friday 3rd September.
As a company we always look forward to our Macmillan Coffee Mornings across our offices in the UK and our Christmas Grand Raffle and Christmas Jumper Day!
