Pickerings Lifts proudly supporting the work of the Children of Masindi Charity
Our colleague Norman Raynor, Assistant Customer Support Manager at our South Coast Office, travelled to Masindi in Uganda to take part in charity work for ten days with the Children of Masindi charity.
The Children of Masindi, a Bristol-based charity established in 2008, travel to Masindi every year to help at the Kamurasi Demonstration School, where nearly 700 children study, many of whom are disabled.
To support Norman and his charity work, Pickerings Lifts held a dress down charity day across its Regional Offices, raising £280. As well as donating money, our generous staff also collected hundreds of pounds worth of supplies, including toys, stationery, toothbrushes, toothpaste, glasses and clothing.
The money raised was used to help buy a 10,000 litre water tank for the hostel next to the school, where disabled children attending the school board. The tank will make a massive impact on these children’s lives, as before the tank was plumbed in, the children had to cross a busy road and large school field to collect water from a nearby bore hole.
We spoke with Norman about his experience “The trip was a fantastic experience and one I will never forget.”
“The money raised was used to purchase many items that the school were in desperate need for and all the gifts for the children, their families and school staff were received with massive smiles and hugs.”
“I’m looking forward to revisiting the school in the next few years and seeing everybody again.”
Karen Edwards, Trustee at Children of Masindi said “During our week in Masindi one of the things Norman was involved in was helping finish off the refurbishment to the Head Teacher’s office. Lillian, the Head of the Kamurasi Demonstration School was over the moon with her new office which was no longer exposed to the elements.
It was a very successful trip and we are thankful to Norman and all of his co-workers for their kind and wonderful generosity.”
