We have a rich heritage of employing new entrants in the lift industry, both in engineering and office-based roles.
We believe that apprenticeships are incredibly valuable to our industry as a great way to upskill and nurture young people, providing them with a trade that will last them throughout their working career.
The great thing about apprenticeships is that you can learn vital qualifications, all while being paid!
As well as money, our apprentices receive a wide range of great benefits working with us including 25 days paid holiday (as well as bank holidays), online discounts, flu vaccination programme and a solid investment in training and development.
We’re your trusted partner
We’ve been in business since 1854 (with the awards to prove it!) and have several years’ experience of employing, training and nurturing our apprentices.
We’re also a leading light in the lift industry, being a founding member of the Lift and Escalator Industry Association (LEIA) and being frequently asked to offer feedback about training and skills, including a new lift-specific apprenticeship programme.
Work with the best people
We believe that it ‘takes a village’ when training apprentices, and all of our staff play a part in ensuring our apprentices not only learn what they need to graduate their apprenticeship, but they learn valuable life skills along the way.
Our engineering apprentices are partnered with a qualified engineer, helping them service and repair lifts, picking up skills and knowledge as they go.
Our managers, administration staff and support teams all play a vital part in helping each and every apprentice achieve their potential.
A comprehensive training programme
We work with a wide range of high-quality training providers that put our apprentices through our paces.
From local colleges through to qualification assessors, we all work together to ensure our apprentices become highly skilled and highly qualified, both ‘on the job’ and ‘off the job’.
A career for life
The majority of our apprentices will find a career waiting for them at Pickerings Lifts at the end of their apprenticeship, with further training and career opportunities available.
Many of our senior members of staff including some of our managers and directors initially started as apprentices, either with ourselves or in other organisations… the sky is the limit in regards to what you could achieve!
The thing I enjoyed most about my apprenticeship was learning and eventually becoming part of something.
I have gained experience not just in engineering but have gained valuable lift skills such as speaking to a wide range of people and being confident in what I do.”
Nathan, former apprentice
