Scissor Lifts – a description

A scissor lift is an item of loading equipment.  They are ideal for lifting and moving loads between different levels where the height difference is less than two metres, such as loading bays and docks.  Many scissor lifts include handrails, hydraulic power pack enclosures and bridging plates for extra safety during operation.

They are commonly used in the warehousing, logistics and distribution industries.

Pickerings Lifts can help you select the right size scissor lift, layout, service and maintenance plan to best suit your requirements.

Pickerings Lifts PPM schedules include a complete full service on your scissor lifts, as opposed to an “inspection only” or “tick box” exercise.

You can see an example of a scissor lift PPM Check List here. The team will also make sure that any minor adjustment, tightening or lubrication is completed as part of the PPM visit.

How can I get a Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) quote for my Scissor Lift?

Call Simon Bromhead on 07976 057239 or email

They will clarify the details of your site, scissor lift and any other relevant equipment.  Once they understand your requirements and how they can help – they can arrange for a free site survey by one of our qualified team if required – they will offer you a proposal with costs.  This will be a tailored, bespoke proposal for your Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) visits.

All parts of the mainland UK are covered.  Also included is our Call-out service.  This is available to all regular service (PPM) customers, 24 hours a day, seven days a week and we attend all sites to complete emergency repairs of your scissor lift within 4 hours as standard.

What happens once I agree to a Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) quote for my Scissor Lift?

Once agreed, the full scissor lift details will be passed from your Account Manager to the relevant Regional Office.  The regional office will contact you before the agreed scheduling of your first scissor lift servicing, to organise a convenient time for the PPM, clarify any specific site requirements and organise the risk assessments to be sent over to you, or your site nominated contact.  Height access provision will also be confirmed if required.

What happens following the Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) visit for my Scissor Lift?

Once agreed, the team will attend site.  They will complete the PPM and organise PPM reports and any remedial quotes that are required for repairs and upgrades to your scissor lift.  You should receive these within a day or so of service completion.

In order to confirm the required work is both required & necessary, our simple reporting process (that includes photos) uses the Red, Amber, Green (RAG) system.  It is easy to understand, especially when customers or site contacts are unfamiliar with the technical nature of the equipment.  All work on the scissor lifts is explained and catagorised to ensure that the customer understands if the repair is “essential” (health & safety critical – RED), “recommended”, (will help prolong equipment life and help to prevent further breakdowns – AMBER) or “good working order”, (where the equipment is in good order and safe to use – GREEN).

This method of reporting is used for both PPM and reactive visits for your scissor lift and associated equipment.  This adds consistency to the process.
