Our spotlight shone on the South West throughout November. From Penzance to Poole, Swindon to Southampton our regional team keeps lifts working across the West Country.
As a fully-qualified lift engineer and Regional Manager for the South West, Bailey combines hands-on expertise with leadership to keep lifts running safely and efficiently across the region.
With over ten years’ experience in the lift industry and a passion for safety and customer care, Bailey is dedicated to keeping the South West moving, one lift at a time.
In his spare time he likes to keep active. Whether it’s mountain biking, running a marathon or conquering the Wales Three Peaks there’s no challenge too big for Bailey.
As we approached Remembrance Sunday, our South West lift engineer Oli was showing his support for our armed forces. He displayed poppies on his van with pride as he set out to install a GSM autodialler for a business in Taunton, Somerset.
Our customer just so happens to support the Royal Navy by developing technology that facilitates the safe navigation of ships.
When we spotted a defect on one of our lifts in Devizes in Wiltshire, we acted quickly to keep it in service and safe for everyone.
The aged lift sheave posed a potential health and safety risk for our national healthcare retailer client, so we swiftly installed a brand-new replacement.
We didn’t stop there; we fitted new ropes and installed bespoke guarding to ensure the lift is safe for all future operatives.
A perfect example of proactive maintenance and putting safety ahead of everything.
Tracy joined Pickerings as an Administrator in our Bristol office in 2012 and has since climbed the career ladder to her current role as South West Operations Manager.
She loves collaborating with her colleagues, planning in lift maintenance and repairs for customers, and finding solutions to daily challenges.
Back in 2015 Tracy started hosting Macmillan coffee mornings. Sadly, only 8 months later, she would find herself using Macmillan Cancer Support for Neil, her husband who was diagnosed with cancer and sadly lost his battle in 2023. She has helped raise almost £7,000 over the last three community events.
Tracy loves spending time with her two young grandkids and her whippet Daisy but she also enjoys taking herself out of her comfort zone. This year she travelled 28,000 miles, taking ten flights in four weeks, to complete a trip of a lifetime to Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand. During her adventures she climbed Sydney Harbour Bridge, took her first motorbike ride on the back of a Harley Davidson and got her first tattoo (of a Kangaroo)!
Whether it’s bucket lists or snagging lists, Tracy is ticking everything off!
A hospital lift has been given a clean bill of health after our engineers completed a full refurbishment of the car interior at a site in Bournemouth.
Lifts are critical to the operation of a hospital and must endure a lot of activity transporting bulky beds and medical equipment between floors and getting patients, staff and visitors around the busy building.
It was therefore pleasing to give the lift a new lease of life with a complete reline of the lift, including: Wall panels, Flooring, Handrails, Kick plates, COP (Car operating panel), Suspended ceiling and LED lighting with emergency backup.
Our South West Lift Engineer Mike has 16 years’ experience in the lift industry and for the last nine years has been an Army Reservist.
Pickerings provides Mike two extra weeks’ unpaid leave each year for him to complete his commitments and training as a fully competent soldier.
The Army Reserve is a vital component of the Army, providing essential mass, unique capabilities, and a diversity of skills critical to meeting the Army's commitments.
Mike brings the discipline and positive values he’s gained in the army to his role as a lift engineer, diligently maintaining lifts and supporting our customers.
South West Trainee Lift Engineer Alex Curry is currently working towards achieving his NVQ Level 3 in Engineering Maintenance: Lift Servicing and the training providers at Elevated Knowledge were blown away by the quality of his latest assessment: “I don’t typically contact a learner’s employer directly, but I felt it was worth highlighting the exceptional quality of Alexander’s recent assessment. It’s rare to come across a submission with such a high level of detail, clear understanding, and comprehensive supporting evidence.
“He has clearly put a great deal of thought and effort into his work and has set a very high standard for himself moving forward. I had nothing to add that could improve it — an excellent piece of work and something he should be very proud of.”
Well done Alex, we’re certainly proud to have you on Team Pickerings.
Our South West Engineer Ian has been busy replacing a control panel for a well-used goods lift at a supermarket in Bristol.
The installation was part of a wider project to update control panels for the national retailer’s stores across the region. The new control panels, bespoke-manufactured locally by Lion LIft Conntrols will improve safety, reliability and future-proof our client with readily available parts as the previous units had grown obsolete.
The control panel effectively operates as the lift’s brain, managing all the lift’s functions including movement between floors, doors opening and closing and safety features such as controlling the speed of the lift and emergency communications. As a result, installing a new control panel can be an intricate job that requires a lot of testing to ensure the safe and reliable operations of all the lift’s functions.
Well done Ian, helping to keep stock on the shelves for our supermarket client.
