For August’s regional focus we showcased our South Wales team, join us in the land of daffodils and leeks to look at our dock levellers and lifts.
We maintain, repair and refurbish lifts from the Pembrokeshire coast across the south of Wales and back over the border to Gloucestershire.
Cardiff-based Morgan Gray joined us as a trainee engineer in 2015 and has progressed rapidly into his current role as our South Wales Regional Manager.
Pickerings supported Morgan in his education, funding his apprenticeship and subsequent studies as he worked hard to acquire his Lift Engineering NVQ Level 3, NVQ Level 4 and his HNC & HND in Electrical Engineering.
Having enjoyed his years on the tools, repairing and servicing lifts across the South West of the UK, Morgan takes great pleasure in his managerial role. He loves building strong relationships with customers and colleagues, helping clients maintain and make the most of their lifts.
Outside of work, Morgan often has his head under a car bonnet, restoring and modifying his John Cooper Works Mini which has even featured on the front covers of magazines. On the track, he’s enjoyed experiences completing laps of Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Goodwood, Spa Circuit and Nürburgring. Off the track, he enjoys travelling in his VW T4 Campervan.
If your lift needs a pit stop, Morgan’s in pole position to get it back on track in record time!
As part of our South Wales focus we visited Cardiff to meet up with our Lift Engineer Nick Hewer.
Nick has been in the lift industry for 30 years, following his career in the army. He started as an engineer’s mate (not as ‘The Apprentice’ as his famous namesake would suggest).
He was carrying out a service on a lift we recently refurbished at council apartments in the centre of the city and he kindly gave us an expert overview of how an elevator functions. Thanks for your time Nick!
Our South Wales Repairs Manager Clive John has almost 30 years of experience in the lift industry, with his career taking him to the other side of the world to New Zealand.
Originally a postman, Clive followed his father’s footsteps into lift engineering starting out as an apprentice in 1998.
His engineering exploits took him from scenic sheep-abundant, rugby-loving Wales to scenic sheep-abundant, rugby-loving New Zealand (or maybe he just took a wrong turn off the A470?).
During his time based in Auckland, he was fortunate to watch the All Blacks rugby team play at their formidably renowned Eden Park.
On returning to Cardiff, Clive joined us at Pickerings in 2021 where he is now our Repairs Manager, coordinating his team of engineers to ensure lifts are swiftly fixed across South Wales.
You can trust that former postman Clive has the global experience to deliver the goods.
As we continue our South Wales focus, we’re hopping across the border to where our regional engineer Rhys helped carry out a lift refurbishment in Cheltenham.
The unwell elevator was prescribed a:
All work was carried out and completed to the high standards required for healthcare environments. Great job Rhys - just what the doctor ordered!
As we wrap up this month’s focus on our South Wales team, we’re taking a closer look at another top lift refurb that we visited earlier in the month with our engineer Nick.
As part of refurbishment works at council apartments in Cardiff we modernised the passenger lift with a new Biofial hydraulic tank, ShortsDMG lift controller, impressive car operating panel and full aesthetic overhaul.
