Throughout May, we headed to the capital to shine the spotlight on our London South office.
From Reading to Dartford, city shops to suburban schools, the team is committed to keeping lifts moving south of the River Thames.
Eva Werner is our Regional Manager who runs operations out of our London South Office, having progressed through the industry developing her capabilities over the past 20 years.
Once upon a time in Hanau in Germany, the birthplace of the Brothers Grimm, Eva’s fairytale began in a very different field as a goldsmith. She proudly achieved her Master Craftsmen’s Diploma, designing and making her own jewelry as well as repairing people’s valued treasures like rings, earrings & necklaces.
After moving to England in 1999 and finding work to complement the seasonal demands of her goldsmithing career, Eva soon found herself in full-time employment with Pickerings – our own little gem in the lift industry.
Eva joined us as Senior Administrator when our London South office first opened in 2006. Over the past 20 years, Eva’s adaptability and aptitude have allowed her to progress through the lift industry in various roles including repair sales, major & minor repairs, operations manager and now as regional manager.
She loves her job and finds it extremely rewarding supporting her team, tackling customers’ challenges and providing solutions to problematic lifts. In her own words, her German side still comes through; straight-talking and efficient but ultimately has a heart of gold.
Our engineer Andy has been out to Royal Holloway University of London, keeping students and staff moving with a responsive repair to a problematic lift. And the university’s Head of Maintenance Amjid Baig couldn’t be happier with the level of service we provide.
Amjid said: “Pickerings are always responsive to any issues. I can’t fault the communication from Eva (Regional Manager) and the maintenance and repair work the engineers have carried out since the contract started in August 2024.
“With 43 passenger and good lifts across our busy campus, it’s reassuring to have a partner like Pickerings that we can trust.”
It’s an honour and a delight to hear such positive words from Amjid and a respected institute like the Royal Holloway, which has an even greater history than our own 170+ years.
“Absolute superstar” Shane pulled out all the stops to repair the lift at a high-class hotel in South Kensington, London and our client was delighted to have the lift back up and running for their guests.
Our client said: "Shane has been an absolute superstar. I know that your engineers are also under time pressure, and he could have easily just said that the part needs to be reordered. He made a huge effort to fix the issue and the lift is now working. A big thank you to him!"
It’s always great to hear praise for our engineers – well done Shane!
Whilst out and about and as busy as ever, our engineer Jack couldn’t resist taking this snap of Pickering Place.
Although the Pickerings name in this instance is unrelated to our 170+ years lift company, Pickering Place in London has a rich history of its own. It is the smallest square in Britain, the last place in London where a duel was fought and was home to the Texan Republic’s embassy until it joined the United States in 1845.
But we’ll leave the history lessons to the experts and stick to fixing lifts – it’s what we’re good at!
When a client in Knightsbridge, London reported their lift doors weren’t opening, our engineer Shane was quick to respond.
He soon discovered the airchord roller was damaged and the airchord had fallen off, preventing the doors from functioning and sliding open.
Shane swiftly installed a new airchord roller, getting the doors working again and the lift back in action in no time.
Good job Shane, on to the next one…
