Trainee Sales Estimator

Pickerings Lifts is a national, well established, privately owned, independent, leading Industry specialist with 170 years’ experience. Due to continued success and growth, we require a Trainee Estimator to provide cost estimates for repairs on loading bay and industrial access equipment covering Loading Systems North Region.

Main Duties:

  • Service Management System Administration: Maintain and update the company’s service management system (Plasma), ensuring data accuracy and that internal and external customer expectations are consistently met.
  • Pricing & Quotations: Prepare and issue accurate repair and service quotations to the existing customer base in a timely and professional manner.
  • Site Survey Support: Carry out site surveys as required to gather technical and commercial information necessary for accurate cost estimates.
  • Order Documentation Checks: Complete technical and commercial checks of all order documentation to ensure compliance with company procedures and customer agreements.
  • Engineer & Office Collaboration: Work closely with engineers and office-based colleagues to ensure pricing accurately reflects job scope, company processes, and agreed customer rates.
  • Cost Accuracy & Commercial Awareness: Support the development of accurate cost calculations, ensuring profitability while maintaining high customer service standards.
  • Continuous Development: Actively participate in training and development opportunities to build estimating, technical, and commercial knowledge within the role.

Person specification:

  • Attention to Detail: Demonstrates a high level of accuracy with strong attention to detail when preparing estimates and reviewing documentation.
  • Technical Aptitude: Technically capable with the ability to understand engineering and loading systems information; prior Loading Systems experience is desirable.
  • Commercial Awareness: Shows an understanding of cost control, pricing structures, and commercial decision-making.
  • Relevant Experience or Qualifications: Holds a formal technical qualification or relevant practical/industry experience.
  • Estimating Knowledge: Previous experience in estimating or cost calculation of products is advantageous but not essential for a trainee role.
  • Organisation & IT Skills: Highly organised with strong IT skills and confidence in using internal systems and Microsoft-based applications.
  • Communication & Teamwork: Able to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with engineers, office staff, and customers.
  • Willingness to Learn: Demonstrates a proactive approach to learning and professional development within a trainee estimating environment.
