Trainee Sales Estimator
Pickerings Lifts is a national, well established, privately owned, independent, leading Industry specialist with 170 years’ experience.
Due to continued success and growth, we require a Trainee / Sales Estimator to provide cost estimates for repairs on loading bay and industrial access equipment covering Loading Systems South Region.
The purpose of the role is to support the preparation of accurate, timely cost estimates for loading systems repairs while developing technical and commercial knowledge. The role contributes to efficient service delivery, supports internal teams and customers, and builds the skills required to progress into a fully competent Estimator role.
Main Duties
- Service Management System Administration: Maintain and update the company’s service management system (Plasma), ensuring all data is accurate and supports both internal operations and customer expectations.
- Pricing & Quotations: Prepare and issue accurate repair and service quotations for the existing customer base in a timely and professional manner.
- Site Survey Support: Carry out site surveys as required to gather the necessary technical and commercial information to support accurate cost estimates.
- Order Documentation Checks: Complete technical and commercial checks on order documentation to ensure compliance with company procedures and agreed customer requirements.
- Collaboration with Engineers & Office Teams: Work closely with engineers and office-based colleagues to ensure pricing reflects the correct scope of work, company processes, and agreed customer rates.
- Cost Accuracy & Commercial Awareness: Support the development of accurate costings, ensuring estimates are commercially sound while maintaining high standards of customer service.
- System & Process Compliance: Follow internal processes and procedures to ensure all estimating activities are carried out consistently and in line with company standards.
Person specification
- Attention to Detail: Demonstrates a high level of accuracy and attention to detail when preparing estimates and reviewing documentation.
- Technical Aptitude: Technically capable with the ability to understand engineering concepts; Loading Systems experience is advantageous but not essential.
- Commercial Awareness: Shows an understanding of cost control, pricing structures, and the commercial impact of decision-making.
- Relevant Experience or Qualifications: Holds a formal technical qualification or has relevant practical or industry-based experience.
- Estimating Knowledge: Previous experience in estimating or cost calculation is beneficial but not essential for a trainee-level role.
- Organisation & IT Skills: Highly organised with strong IT skills and confidence using internal systems and Microsoft applications.
- Communication & Teamwork: Communicates clearly and works collaboratively with engineers, office staff, and customers.
- Willingness to Learn: Demonstrates a proactive approach to learning, with a strong commitment to developing skills within an estimating role.
