Trainee Loading Systems Engineer

Pickerings Lifts is a national, well established, privately owned, independent, leading Industry specialist with 170 years’ experience.

We require a Trainee Loading Systems / Industrial Door Engineer to carry out servicing, callouts and repairs on loading bay and industrial access equipment covering Loading Systems South Region.

Main Duties:

  • Assisted Service & Maintenance: Support senior engineers in servicing loading bay and industrial access equipment, including dock levellers, scissor lifts, vehicle restraints, industrial doors, gates, and barriers, developing technical competence through supervised practical experience.
  • Basic Fault Identification: Assist with fault finding and minor repairs under guidance, learning to identify mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues safely and effectively.
  • Service Documentation: Complete service check sheets accurately and support the preparation of reports detailing additional repair or remedial works, ensuring clear and accurate record keeping.
  • Planned Maintenance Support: Assist in carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) in line with service contracts and company standards, gaining experience in structured maintenance routines.
  • Repair Assistance: Support repair works as directed by senior engineers, ensuring tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company procedures.
  • On-Call Support Participation: Provide support within the regional on-call rota (when trained and qualified), under supervision, to gain exposure to reactive callout procedures.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to company Health & Safety policies and safe systems of work, demonstrating a proactive and responsible approach to site safety at all times.

Person specification:

  • Driving Licence: Hold a full UK driving licence, essential for travel to customer sites and regional coverage.
  • Health & Safety Awareness: Demonstrate willingness to undertake Health & Safety training as directed by the QHSE Department and show commitment to maintaining safe working practices.
  • Communication Skills: Possess good communication and customer service skills, with the ability to interact professionally with customers and colleagues.
  • Qualifications (Desirable): Relevant vocational qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 2 or equivalent) in a mechanical, electrical, or engineering-related discipline desirable but not essential.
  • Technical Interest: Basic understanding or keen interest in mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, with a willingness to develop hands-on technical skills.
  • Professional Development: Motivated to undertake ongoing technical, product, and safety training to build competency and progress within the business.
