Operations Manager

The purpose of the Operations Manager is to lead and coordinate regional lift service, repair, and maintenance operations, ensuring the efficient delivery of customer commitments, achievement of commercial objectives, and compliance with safety standards within the Northeast region. The role is responsible for managing operational resources, supporting team performance, driving customer satisfaction, and promoting continuous business growth across the region.

Main Duties include:

  • Quotation & Cost Management: Prepare accurate customer quotations for repairs and maintenance works, sourcing parts and materials to ensure commercially competitive and profitable proposals.
  • Parts Procurement & Stock Control: Order parts within approved budgets, monitor delivery schedules, and maintain effective stock control to support operational requirements.
  • Job Order Administration: Process repair and maintenance job orders, ensuring all documentation is accurate, up to date, and compliant with company procedures.
  • Repair Completion & Record Management: Close completed repair works promptly, ensuring all associated documentation, including subcontractor paperwork, is correctly uploaded and recorded.
  • Resource Planning & Supervision: Schedule, coordinate, and supervise engineers, labourers, and subcontractors to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and within agreed timescales.
  • Site Survey & Project Coordination: Carry out site inspections to assess work requirements, identify necessary parts and materials, define specifications, and effectively programme works.
  • Customer Relationship Management: Build and maintain positive customer relationships, managing expectations and ensuring a high standard of service delivery and customer satisfaction.
  • Team Leadership & Performance Management: Motivate and support the regional team to achieve operational objectives, service standards, and regional performance targets.
  • Workload Monitoring: Monitor and manage workloads across the region, ensuring jobs are completed efficiently and within agreed deadlines.
  • Operational Reporting & Administration: Process timesheets, liaise with internal departments, and produce monthly operational reports to support business performance monitoring.
  • Business Development & Revenue Growth: Maximise repair opportunities and actively contribute to the generation of additional repair sales within the region.
  • Health & Safety Leadership: Deliver Toolbox Talks and promote a positive health and safety culture, ensuring compliance with company policies and industry standards.
  • Operational Support: Deputise for the Regional Manager when required, ensuring continuity of service and effective management of regional operations.

Person specification:

  • Lift Industry Experience: Demonstrable experience within the lift industry, with a strong understanding of lift products, maintenance activities, and industry terminology.
  • Leadership & Supervisory Skills: Previous supervisory, team leadership, or first-line management experience, with the ability to coordinate and motivate operational teams.
  • Technical Qualification: Ideally qualified in Lift Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Commercial Awareness: Strong commercial understanding with the ability to manage quotations, budgets, costs, and revenue-generating opportunities effectively.
  • IT & Analytical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with customers, engineers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Relationship Building: Proven ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships, fostering collaboration across teams and with customers.
  • Organisation & Planning: Highly organised with the ability to prioritise workloads, manage multiple tasks, and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Customer Focus: Committed to delivering high levels of customer service and ensuring customer expectations are met or exceeded.
  • Self-Motivation & Initiative: Able to work independently, make informed decisions, and take ownership of operational activities within the region.
