We carried out a lift replacement in a care home on behalf of a regional housing association.

Partners PROMISE

We will go above and beyond for all of our customers, wherever and whoever they are.

Pickerings Lifts was responsible for the removal and replacement of two existing hydraulic eight person passenger lifts installed at two care homes ran by the housing association.

The existing lifts were replaced with two new eight person traction MRL passenger lifts, which would carry staff, residents and visitors over three floors.

We worked closely with the housing association, from concept to completion, to ensure the right solution was found for the project. Their key requirement for the new lifts was reliability and ensuring access was available at all times for their residents and also looking at energy efficient models.

Due to the new traction MRL passenger lifts requiring to be installed to fit the existing lift shafts, the lift was bespoke designed and manufactured by Pickerings Lifts.  This ensured that the lift was to the exact requirements required.

We have our in-house design capabilities, with Notified Body approval to Level D1 for conceptual design under the European Lift Directive, conducted from a fully operational drawing office with over 110 years combined experience within lift design.  Our technical project engineers transform the information established during development stage and, using the latest C.A.D and 3D modelling design technology, bring the project to life.

With the lift we used an AC gearless motor which has been proven as the best and most energy efficient available on the marketplace, saving the housing association money as well as reducing their carbon footprint.

All of our products are open protocol which means we fit non-proprietary third party equipment so our customers are not tied into sole supply, ensuring they have full flexibility for future maintenance and availability of spare parts creating significant cost savings.

Prior to the commencement of this project, a robust mobilisation plan was created, detailing each element of the project requirements with a timeline for delivery (start of contract) and key project team members and roles identified. The plan was fully discussed and agreed to ensure minimal disruption to residents or any other potential issues that would delay the project.

A key part of this project was that the housing association required a large amount of decorative building materials to be moved to all levels within the building, much of which was heavy but very delicate and we worked with the housing association and their builder to provide a solution to meet their needs and ensure all materials were safely transported to the respective level.

The project team discussed the request with our in-house design and H&S teams and with a risk assessment and method statement to review and confirm if feasible and to provide a solution.  Following this process we were able to erect a temporary platform on the rucksack car sling with a suitable custom barrier. The car was then manually operated by our engineers as a moving platform on a long lead pendant control to transport the materials safely.

With the additional work requested we were still able to complete the installation to schedule with no extra costs and within the agreed budget.

The financial management of the project was managed by the Project Manager. At the commencement of the project we ensured that the terms that we are to work to are fully agreed and confirmed which included a payment schedule indicating each key payment date and dates for invoicing.

At all key stages of the project, all costs were monitored to ensure they were within budget. Where variations occurred we ensured that these were fully priced and agreed prior to carrying out variation works to prevent any unexpected costs arising at a later stage in the project.

All of our managers and appropriate personnel are trained in customer care and satisfaction to ensure we provide excellent customer service at all times.

DBS checks were carried out to the level required  we complied fully with the DBS Code of Practice regarding the correct handling, use, storage, retention and disposal of Disclosures and Disclosure information.
