Apprentice Lift Engineer | Covering Scotland


Overall Function:

To learn the trade of being a Lift Maintenance Engineer by efficiently assisting and following direction from a Lead Maintenance Engineer / Technician and undertaking duties as requested by the Lead Engineer.

Completing the L6 Apprenticeship, which may include (depending on prior learning) studying an SQA technical certificate through college attendance and completing vocational training SVQ in Lift Maintenance in order to become competent at the effective management of a lift maintenance route within a defined geographical area.


Main duties:

  • To become proficient in the maintenance of all types of goods, passenger and service lifts including: Traction, hydraulic, MRL’s and platform lifts in a variety of different environments
  • To assist with completing maintenance schedules as directed by the Lead Engineer / Technician
  • To undertake minor repair duties, as directed by Lead Engineer / Technician
  • To actively participate in an on-call rota within the region once trained and the Operations Manager deems it appropriate
  • To conform to and utilise best practice within Health & Safety at all times
  • Completion of Lift L6 Apprenticeship

Person specification:

  • Customer focused with the ability to convey a professional attitude at all times
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and listening skills
  • Positive and flexible attitude to work
  • Good organisation and prioritisation skills
  • Methodical approach
  • Self-motivated to study SQA & SVQ and other industry specific qualifications including technical certificates
  • Interest in electrics and mechanics
  • Previous mechanical / electrical experience and or qualification desirable
  • Entry requirements 4 x National 5’s in; Maths, English, Physics +1 other
  • Full driving license desirable not essential (The appointed apprentice will work throughout Scotland but ideally live close to Bailliston for pick-up and drop off)

In addition to the above, the post-holder will also be required to undertake additional duties as appropriate to the nature and level of the role.
