Pickerings Lifts is dedicated to training the stars of tomorrow and giving young people all across the country the opportunity to learn, in order to become leaders of their industries in the years to come.
We’d like to introduce you to Rebecca and James, who are both starting their careers at Pickerings Lifts.
Rebecca is volunteering at Pickerings Lifts in the HR department, she joined the HR department in November last year and comes in to Pickerings Lifts once a week to assist with a variety of HR activities.
During her placement she has been working towards her Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management at Teesside University. She has passed all her modules and examinations with flying colours and has recently completed her dissertation.
Volunteering at Pickerings Lifts provided Rebecca with a better understanding of her chosen dissertation subject – employee engagement.
Rebecca said “I have always been a people person and this is why I want to go into a career in Human Resources. I am thoroughly enjoying my time here and everyone has been so helpful. I’m now looking forward to progressing my career in Human Resources. I wish to thank everyone at Pickerings Lifts for this opportunity, it has helped me grow and has been a great experience.”
Norma Reilly, Human Resources and Training Manager at Pickerings Lifts said: “We have always taken pride in offering volunteers work experience, it has been a pleasure to work alongside Rebecca and offer her guidance throughout the last eight months. We wish her the best of luck with her career – she has a bright future ahead of her.”
James recently started as an Apprentice Engineer at our Bristol Office in the South West Region and has been welcomed into the team to learn about lift maintenance and repair.
He is currently shadowing one of our qualified Engineers on services and call-outs. He has begun his BTEC in Engineering – this September and will start his NVQ next year.
James said “I always liked the idea of being an Engineer as you get to work in many places and meet lots of different people. Although I’ve only just started, I’m really enjoying the job and everyone at the office has been very supportive.”
Mike Willetts, Customer Support Manager at Pickerings Lifts Bristol office said “James started with no experience of the lift industry but has been learning on the job as he goes along, picking up a little bit more knowledge each time.
It’s been a challenging but very rewarding experience for him so far and we are all behind him to ensure he succeeds.”
If you are looking for volunteer work, work experience or an Apprenticeship opportunity, Pickerings Lifts may be able to help.
From our Head Office in Stockton on Tees, to our regional offices across the UK, we have a wide range of opportunities available, not only in engineering, but also sales, finance and business administration.
