Pickerings Lifts Head Office raises gold for local homelessness charity Community Campus 87.
Our Head Office, based in Stockton-on-Tees, held a summer charity event in aid of a local homelessness charity on Friday 21 June.
Our summer events have been a well-loved occasion at Pickerings Lifts for several years, with staff enjoying food, dressing up, and taking part in quizzes and raffles to win prizes, all while raising money for a range of well-deserving charities.
The theme for this year’s event was ‘Treasure Island’, with staff dressing up in eyepatches, bandanas, stripy shirts and pirate hats for the day!
The team enjoyed a lunchtime feast of jacket potatoes, hot dogs, strawberries and doughnuts, as well as taking part in a pirate themed-quiz, tombola and a variety of games including ‘whack the rat’, pop-up pirate, hook-a-shark and a coconut shy.
Staff dug deep and raised over £342 for Community Campus 87, a local charity dedicated to reducing youth homelessness in the Tees Valley area by providing affordable housing, emotional support and apprenticeship opportunities. They were recently named in The Big Issue’s ‘Top 100 Changemakers in the UK’.
Staff from Community Campus 87 came along for the afternoon to meet the team, find out more about Pickerings Lifts, and take part in the fun and games.
Pickerings Lifts staff visited Community Campus 87’s Stockton office two weeks later to hand over the cheque for the event, take a tour of the office and meet Sam and Joel, two young people who are carrying out an apprenticeship through the charity.
Luke Dowson, HR Apprentice at Pickerings Lifts chose Community Campus 87 as the summer event charity. He said: “Community Campus 87 do so much for young people in the area, providing them with accommodation as well as work opportunities. I’m really pleased that our staff raised so much and it was great to go to their offices to meet the people who the money will go towards helping.”
Joanne French, Supported Housing Manager from Community Campus 87 said: “We were delighted to receive this donation from the team at Pickerings Lifts, and it will help us continue to provide housing, support and training to young people in the region who are experiencing or are at risk of homelessness.”
Thank you to St John’s Kitchen in Stockton on Tees for providing the jacket potatoes as well as Tesco Billingham, Tesco Stockton on Tees and ASDA Portrack Lane for kindly donating food for the event.
