£1,644 raised for the NSPCC
The Pickerings Lifts Grand Christmas Prize Draw was held today (Friday 17 December), with the proceeds going to the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC).
This well-known charity works tirelessly to protect children today, prevent abuse tomorrow and help rebuild children’s lives by supporting families.
A staff poll was carried out in October, asking employees to choose their preferred option from four national charities. NSPCC received the highest number of votes and so is the beneficiary of our 2021 draw.
Our staff across the UK have really done us proud – when the sale of entries for the prize draw went live on 16 November, over £190 was raised in the first hour alone!
Donations were collected online through JustGiving, so we never needed to handle cash. Not only did this help keep us safe and prevent the spread of Covid-19, but the money goes directly to NSPCC.
All our staff had to do was leave their name, and then their entries were recorded “behind the scenes”, with their entry numbers shared on our intranet.
Always thinking of new ways of how to do things, it was decided not to use traditional tickets in a drum, and instead hold a paperless draw. Today for the first time we have used a random number generator, saving on the unnecessary use of paper!
Our aim was to raise £500. Why £500 you may ask.
Well, £250 could cover the cost for one of the NSPCC trained ChildLine counsellors to speak to 62 children who reach out for support.
What we have learnt is every 25 seconds a child contacts ChildLine for help. So far this year, ChildLine has seen a 29% rise in calls from young children struggling with their mental health.
We are delighted to surpass that amount with £1,644, which means NSPCC can continue providing vital help and support to children and adults concerned about a child’s welfare.
Thanks to the generosity of the Company and our valued supply chain partners, there were more than 60 prizes in the draw including: a 32” Samsung TV; a George Foreman grill and various other electrical devices; Amazon gift cards worth £100 and £20; a £50 Love2Shop gift card; Marks and Spencer gift cards worth £20, through to food and drink hampers, chocolates and Bucks Fizz, not to mention 3 days annual leave up for grabs!
The money was further increased with a Christmas jumper day on the day of the draw, where staff wore their most festive clothing.
Hayley Lynn, Community Fundraising Manager said: “A huge well done to you all at Pickerings Lifts, What an incredible amount raised! This has been a perfect example of how virtual fundraising can be done successfully and efficiently. We have suggested this model of fundraising to other supporters.”
Neil Marsden, Service Sales and Marketing Director, added: “Knowing the money raised will allow up to six or more trained ChildLine counsellors to continue their fantastic work is brilliant. As we know, mental health is so important for children and adults.
I’d like to thank everyone who supported the charity by buying entries to the prize draw and donating money, as well as our staff, suppliers and local businesses who very kindly contributed prizes for our draw.”
A huge thanks goes to our suppliers for such amazing prizes… HSS Hire, Shorts Industries, Hydroware UK Limited, Motus Limited, Pfeifer Drako Limited, Evolution Lifts, Elevator Equipment Limited, Trafford Electrical, TDRS Recruitment, Polymer Products, Elevator Jobs and Enhanced Recruitment.
