National Apprenticeship Week 2022
Here at Pickerings Lifts we’re celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2022 by introducing you to our newly-appointed apprentices, looking at our past apprentices and celebrating with those who have passed!
Apprentices are an important and valuable part of our ongoing strategy to future proof our workforce.
We caught up with Jackson Dunn at Head Office in Stockton-on-Tees. He’s is our Central Customer Operations Apprentice who joined us in November last year.
“Hi, yes of course, I will be completing the Business Administration Level 3 qualification. As part of this I have to collate evidence for my portfolio and sit four exams.”
“I have been with the Company for four months now. I started in November 2021 and I’m enjoying every minute!”
“After school I attended college and studied music. I completed the ‘Music Practice Level 3’ course.
After that, I decided that I wanted to work and gain a qualification at the same time – the apprenticeship route was the perfect fit for my family life.”
“A typical working day for me is waking up being excited to come to work. I get in the office at eight thirty and already the atmosphere is just so warm and friendly.
I feel accepted and welcome here, and it makes work so much more enjoyable.”
“The most interesting thing I am finding so far is working with the regional offices [we have 12!] to help our customers and provide answers to their questions.
I enjoy the team work aspect of it all, and especially in the office and my team.”
[Laughs] “Well, it isn’t as hectic as I thought it would be. I can study at work, which I am really thankful for, and I attend college one day a week.
Everyone has really made an effort to make me feel welcome and answer any questions I have.”
“Outside of work I mostly spend time with my girlfriend and young daughter. We enjoy going out on walks and entertaining her.”
“A hobby of mine is music, specifically guitar. I’ve been playing for three years now and I’m self-taught.”
“My favourite TV show has to be the Big Bang Theory!”
We view apprenticeships as an investment in young people that will reap dividends for Pickerings Lifts far into the future.
By providing apprentices with the skills and knowledge necessary to work within the lift industry, we are equipping them with a vocation that will help them throughout their lives. At the same time, we’re helping to secure a stable, reliable, and highly-educated workforce, trained in the Pickerings Lifts methods and values.
Pickerings Lifts currently has seven apprentices, and as you might expect with a national company, they’re spread out across the whole of the UK.
Equally, because we install, maintain and repair all types of lifts, and all these activities have to be managed and co-ordinated, so there is scope for a wide range of apprenticeships.
We have apprentices in sales and marketing, central customer operations, lift, maintenance and repair and escalators.
